My
Story
I've been making movies for a number of years now. It all started with a small red camera that
thought it could and my imagination. My
brothers, my friend Barry (B.J. for short), and I made all kinds of fun short
videos, from the comical Mr. Benson, starring yours truly, to the WWII epic (okay
not really epic, it was about 5-10 min.) To Hunt or be Hunted. We always had a blast, but I never thought it
would become anything more than a fun side activity. During this time, God was really working on
me, though I didn't know it at first. I
was a Christian, but I felt an emptiness. I felt undefined, and so I began to
search for some kind of niche that would fill that hole, something that would
make me special, different from everyone else. Following that trail, I got into a lot of
things: art, paintball, secret agents, acting and the list goes on. The amazing thing is, even though I was
looking for fulfillment in the wrong places, God used this season of my life to
introduce many of the hobbies I still enjoy today. I don't know about you, but I call that grace!
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God
works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his
purpose.
Slowly, God began to show me that what I was looking
for could not be found in obtaining something that would make me look special,
something that would glorify me. My
emptiness needed to be filled by finding the purpose God had for me, centered on
bringing Him glory. By searching for a
way to exalt myself, I broke commandment #1, “You shall have no other gods
before me (Exodus 20:3).” When this
truth was revealed to me, my search for purpose changed, and it began to
revolve around glorifying Christ. My
selfish mindset changed to a ministry mindset. The question I was left with was how was this
new found mindset going to manifest itself in my life?
Romans 12:2
Do
not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his
good, pleasing and perfect will.
I believe God has made each person special and has
designed them each with unique talents and abilities. Our Lord has given everyone a specific purpose
that only they can fulfill. This was the
stage my new found ministry mindset had launched me onto. What was my special purpose? This answer didn't come right away. It took a lot of time and many late nights,
pleading with the Lord for answers.
1 Corinthians 12:4
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit
distributes them.
Throughout this whole time, I continued to dabble
with making movies. I would do a little,
then stop for a long time, then start back up again, but that all changed when
I discovered the power that could be found in filmmaking. The Kendrick Brothers and their film, Facing
the Giants, showed me how a movie could be used to teach a Christ centered
message, further God's kingdom, and bring glory to the Lord. I thought to myself, "I could do
that," and my filmmaking hobby transformed into a calling. In Christ’s perfect timing, I had found my
purpose.
James 1:17
Every good and perfict gift is from above, coming from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Since then, my movie making abilities have improved,
my passion has grown, but my purpose remains the same. I am a servant of Christ first and a
filmmaker second. If the movie making
ever threatens to take me away from dedication and service to God, then I'll
know that it's time to put the camera away, but for now, God is calling me to
use my camera as a tool to bring Him glory and honor.
What
is Christian Boys' Production?
Christian
Boys' Production (CPB) is really where my ministry mindset, my desire to serve
Christ, and my passion for film making merge. I started this production company with three
goals in mind...
1. To
use it as a ministry tool to share God honoring films...
Through CPB, I hope to not only
tell stories but also communicate Godly messages. Films are pointless if used for only
entertainment, but when used to teach, they become a worth wild endeavor. Furthermore, family ministry is vital, and I
am so thankful to have the support of both my biological family and spiritual
family. We minister better together than
alone.
2. To
use it to equip filmmakers with material that would help them develop Christ
centered films...
Sadly,
there is not much material available that provide film making education,
centered around honoring Christ. I hope
to use CBP as a means to change that. I
don't know everything (far from it), but I intend to share what I do know. Along the way, this community can learn
together.
3. To
allow it to create a community of brothers and sisters in Christ who could
minister through the power of film together...
I do not want to be the only one
making films. I pray continually for the
Lord to allow filmmakers, who share the same worldview as I, to cross my path. I hope CBP will become a community where God
honoring filmmakers everywhere can connect together, grow together, be inspired
together, and create together. God has
designed humans to work best as a team. Two heads are better than one, and many hands
make light work.
If Christian Boys' Production can
accomplish these three goals then it will be a success.
